Overview
Venmo is a digital payment method that allows users to instantly pay or receive money.
Research
When researching possibilities of improving the platform. I met with 8 Venmo users that provided their feedback on their experience. Below is a graphic that consolidates my findings.
Opportunities
Giving users the ability to customize the transactions they want to see on their feed
(Global vs Personal)Venmo balance needs to be easily accessible from a centralized location
Default payment type when users pay/request money (with the ability to choose other options such as QR code scanning)
Prototype
Home Feed
The redesigned home page allows users to clearly view their Venmo balance and easily transfer money to the bank.
The home feed has been set by default to view and search their personal transaction. Users have the ability to change their preferences in their profile settings if they wish to view the global feed.
We’ve also introduced a bottom nav bar to allow users to quickly tap through the different pages.
Keeping the Law of Proximity in mind, a fab button was included to give users quick access to payment methods.
Pay/Request - Single Tap
By default, the payment method has been set to “Pay or Request” which immediately pulls up a drawer to search or select a user.
Other Payment Methods - Long Press
If a user chooses another payment besides the default method, they have the ability to quickly select the option they need by long pressing on the fab.
This will give users the option to Scan Code, Pay/Request or Show Code.
Payment Process

Quick Payments - Top Users
With machine learning into play, the system keeps track of your top/recent transactions and displays them at the top. Users also have the option pin favorites to the top.
This feature allows users to make quick payments to their top contacts.
Reflection
As a frequent Venmo user, I’ve had my fair share of love/frustrations with the platform. I decided to pick up this project for fun to get an idea of what other users think. The feedback from the Venmo survey was extremely insightful. I was able to gather all the feedback and consolidate it into infographic like document and start brainstorming improvements. After going through the design process of research, ideation and prototype — I’ve reached the step of validation.
It will be very interesting to talk to the users again to get their feedback on the redesigned product.
